Hurry! Free Makeup at Department Stores starting on 1/20/09

Due to a $175 million class action lawsuit that was settled by many major cosmetics companies you can go to major department stores and pick up a free item from one of several major manufacturers, including Estee Lauder, Chanel, Guerlain, Clarins, Boucheron and more. The full details of the lawsuit and the list of cosmetics that are being offered free of charge can be found at http://www.cosmeticssettlement.com/.

The following department stores are participating in the distribution of the makeup:
Bergdorf Goodman, Bergner’s, Bloomingdale’s, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Dillard’s, Gottschalks, Herberger’s, Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Parisian, Saks Fifth Avenue & Younkers.

You can get the makeup starting on 1/20/09 and the settlement lasts for up to seven days, but it's only while supplies last, so go sooner rather than later. 1/22 update - Call before you go. Several stores are already out of stock.

Just in case you're wondering if this is legit, here's an article in Business Week about it.

  1. Affluent Pauper - Thank you for showing me a path to a champagne lifestyle on my beer budget. I saw the “Free Cosmetics” posting and headed for the malls. The information on the lawsuit gives the impression that you can go to the various counters at your department store(s) and get one item per person. However, here’s how it really works. Each department store has a table or tables set aside with all or some of the products listed in the lawsuit. You must sign-in and select one item that is available. Therefore, in order to make this effort worthwhile, one should look at a mall with at least 2-3 department stores. Needless to say, I was very please with my “cosmetic bootie”.

I went to five department stores and got:

-Calvin Klein Euphoria Men’s Bath and Shower Crème (6.7 oz)
-2 Bottles of Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair (15 ml/0.5 oz)
-2 Clinique Moisture Surge (30 ml/1 oz) (Gave one away)
-Ralph Lauren Romance Shower Gel (6.7 oz.)
-Very Irresistible Givenchy Eau de Toilette (15 ml)

    Thanks Affluent Pauper,

    Twila

  2. Thanks for the comment Twila! I love to hear stories of how my blog readers are putting my research to use. Unfortunately, I wasnt able to make it to one of the department stores participating. I called a local Macys this evening and as anticipated, they ran out of stock on the first day. Don't forget to check today's post and head down to Bath and Body works. Buy a chapstick and get $12 or so worth of lotion or bath gel!
